Recalls: Kia YP Carnival
Overview
Manufacturers, or importers, issue recalls for defects or faults which have the potential to cause injury. Generally, manufacturers will inform the original buyers if their vehicle is subject to a recall and of the steps required to remedy the defect or fault. Please note that the recalls below (if any) are for Australian-delivered vehicles only. Furthermore, the number of recalls should not be taken as an indication of a model’s reliability or its safety more generally.
Recalls: Kia YP Carnival
2015 Kia YP Carnival: hard brake pedal and increased effort required
In June 2015, a recall was issued for 2015 Kia YP Carnival vehicles with petrol or diesel engines. During the manufacture of these vehicles, the brake booster centre plate and assembly jig may have been misaligned and caused deformation of the O-ring in the brake booster. The brake booster may therefore develop an internal leak that causes significant brake pedal resistance when it is applied repeatedly. The increased pedal effort required and loss of braking effectiveness could pose an accident hazard to the driver and other road users. 2017 Kia YP Carnival: hard brake pedal and increased effort required
In December 2017, a recall was issued for 2017 Kia YP Carnival vehicles. Due to a manufacturing issue, the vacuum hose to the brake booster could become weak over time – this could cause the hose to collapse when vacuum was applied. In turn, the brake pedal may become hard if the driver attempted to apply the brake pedal repeatedly and that greater force would be required to achieve the expected stopping distance. 2019 model year Kia YP Carnival: seatbelt installed on wrong side of seat
In April 2019, recall campaign 191023 was issued for 2019 model year Kia YP Carnival vehicles. Due to a supplier assembly error, the seatbelt buckle for the second-row middle seat may have been installed on the wrong side of the seat, thereby preventing proper use of the three-point seatbelt and this increased the risk of injury in the event of a collision. 2019-20 Kia YP Carnival: fire in engine compartment
In August 2020, recall campaign 201074 was issued for Kia YP Carnival vehicles that were available for sale in Australia from 30 August 2019 to 19 August 2020. In these vehicles, the positive terminal on the alternator may not have been tightened to specification during assembly. If this terminal became loose, resistance to the alternator could increase and generate heat. This heat could, in turn, cause a fire in the engine compartment – this posed a risk to the safety of vehicle occupants and other road users. 2021 Kia YP Carnival: damaged fuel supply pipe could leak fuel
In June 2021, recall campaign 211056 was issued for 2021 Kia YP Carnival vehicles. During manufacturing, the fuel supply pipe may have been damaged and this could result in a fuel leak. A fuel leak could cause an engine compartment fire which could cause increase the risk of a collision, injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users. 2014-16 Kia YP Carnival: opposite turn signal may activate
In December 2021, recall campaign 211120 was issued for 2014-16 Kia YP Carnival vehicles. Due to a software error with the Smart Junction Box (SJB), the turn signal may activate in the oppositve direction of what the driver had intended. If the turn signal did not operate as intended, it could increase the risk of a collision that could cause injury to vehicle occupants and other road users. 2016-18 Kia YP Carnival: airbags may not deploy
In March 2022, recall campaign 221004 was issued for 2016-18 Kia YP Carnival vehicles. Due to a manufacturing error, the Airbag Control Unit (ACU) cover and the Electronically Erasable Programming Read-20ly Memory (EEPROM) chip may have been produced with insufficient clearance. This could cause the airbag warning lights to illuminate and the airbags may not deploy. In the event of a collision, failure of the airbags to deploy increased the risk of injury to vehicle occupants. For this recall, the dealer was to replace the ACU with an improved unit if the airbag warning light was illuminated and fault code B162000 was stored. If, however, the airbag warning light was not illuminated, then a software update would be performed to the ACU to ensure airbag deployment in the event of a collision. 2015 Kia YP Carnival: gear shifter could move to park without the brake needing to be depressed
In September 2022, a recall campaign was issued for 2015 Kia YP Carnival vehicles. For these vehicles, the shift lock holder may not meet specifications – this could result in the shift lock mechanism not returning to the locked position, such that the gear selector could be moved from park without depressing the brake pedal. If the gear selector was unintentionally moved out of park without depressing the brake pedal, it could result in the vehicle rolling away – this posed a risk of injury to occupants, road users and bystanders.
