Recalls: Kia MG Magentis

Overview

Manufacturers, or importers, issue recalls for defects or faults which have the potential to cause injury. 2006-07 Kia MG Magentis: automatic transmission shift lever cable

In April 2011, a recall was issued for Kia MG Magentis models manufactured between 26 January 2006 and 29 May 2007 due to the possibility of the automatic transmission shift lever cable being incorrectly fitted; this could result in incorrect selection of ‘Park’ (PRA 2011/12513). The recalled vehicles had VINs in the following ranges:

  • KNAGE223365062238 to KNAGE223365080997;
  • KNAGE224365028436 to KNAGE224365071817;
  • KNAGE223375082336 to KNAGE223375165321; and,
  • KNAGE224375086583 to KNAGE224375119798.

Kia MG Magentis V6: throttle position sensor and ECM upgrade

In November 2009, Kia Motors issued technical service bulletin 044 for Kia MG Magentis/Optima vehicles with 2.7-litre V6 petrol engines that were manufactured prior to 4 January 2009. In these vehicles, the malfunction indicator light (MIL) may illuminate and the following diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) may be issued in relation to the electronic throttle control system –

  • P2135: throttle position sensor 1/2 voltage correlation;
  • P0638: throttle actuator control range/performance; and,
  • P2A00, P2A03 or P2A03: oxygen sensor related.

To fix, the throttle position (TP) sensor was to be replaced with an upgraded component and the engine control module (ECM) reprogrammed.
