In September 2014, a recall was issued for Infiniti Y51 Q70 Hybrid vehicles – due to a casting issue, there may be a crack in the automatic transmission case of some of these vehicles. If there was a crack and the vehicle was driven at high speeds (i.e. over 140 km/h), the crack could grow. At worst, the transmission may detach from its mounting, posing an accident hazard to the driver and other road users. The recalled Infiniti Q70 Hybrid vehicles had VINs in the range JN1BA*V37A0320003 to JN1BA*V37A0330009 (PRA 2014/14334).

If the electric water pump in the cooling system for the hybrid drive system failed, the water temperature may rise and a warning lamp would illuminate. If the vehicle continued to be driven in this condition, the overheat protection control may engage to stop the engine and traction motor from operating. The loss of motive power from this powertrain shut down could pose an accident hazard (PRA 2016/15528).
2012-15 Infiniti Y51 Q70: propeller shaft could crack and detach
In January 2021, recall campaign R20B8 was issued for Infiniti Y51 Q70 vehicles that were available for sale in Australia from 26 July 2012 to 31 December 2015. Due to improper material and dimensions, the fatigue strength of the propeller shaft was lower than expected – this could cause the propeller shaft to crack and detach, creating noticeable engine noise. If the vehicle continued to be driven in this condition, the vehicle may stop without warning – this posed a risk of serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users. To fix, the propeller shaft was to be replaced. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see PRA 2020/18723.
