Commencing production in September 2000 andReleased in Australia in December 2000, the BMW E39.II M5 introduced cosmetic updates and a revised interior. The BMW E39.II M5 could be identified by its new headlights with illuminated ‘Corona’ rings (commonly known as ‘angel eyes’) and new tail-lights. Inside, there was a thicker three-spoke M steering wheel (shared with the E46 M3), a new audio/navigation unit with a larger 6.5-inch display and grey instrument faces.
