Released in September 2006, the Volvo Mk.1 Phase II (Mk.1-II) XC90 introduced a revised range, seven seats as standard, an upgraded all-wheel drive system and subtle cosmetic changes. The T6 was discontinued, but the range was expanded with a 2.4-litre turbo-diesel variant (‘D5’) and a 4.4-litre petrol V8 (‘V8’). In 2007, a 3.2-litre petrol six-cylinder engine (‘3.2’) was also added to the line-up, effectively replacing the 2.5T. In July 2011, the range was revised as the V8 variants were discontinued.

Released in September 2010, the Volvo Mk.1 Phase II (Mk.1-II) XC60 introduced Euro V emissions-compliant engines and an updated interior. Inside, the Mk.1-II XC60 could be identified by its revised tunnel console and centre stack, which housed either a five- or seven-inch colour display. Occupant protection was also improved with strengthened A- and B-pillars. In March 2011, the XC60 range was expanded with a price-leading front-wheel drive T5 variant.

Released in October 2013, the Volvo Mk.1 Phase III (Mk.1-III) XC60 introduced a revised range and subtle interior and exterior updates. As standard, the Mk.1-III XC60 was also fitted with Corner Traction Control, a torque vectoring system which would apply the brakes to the inside wheels when cornering to prevent understeer. The Volvo Mk.1-III XC60 could be identified by its new bonnet (with washer nozzles positioned underneath), larger iron mark grille badge, daytime LED running lights, integrated tailpipes and the omission of black body-protecting trim. Inside, there was a new adaptive digital display which used an active TFT (Thin Film Transistor) panel to provide the driver with personalised information and in three selectable themes: Elegance, Eco and Performance. Other interior changes include a new headliner, wood inlays and silk metal frames surrounding the air vents and light controls.

Released in October 2004, the Volvo Mk.2 Phase II (Mk.2-II) XC70 introduced revised styling and improved equipment levels. Initially, the auto-only XC70 range was only available in an LE edition, but an SE was added in 2005. The Volvo Mk.2-II XC70 could be identified by its new grille, larger skid plates, clear lens headlights, larger door mirrors, brushed aluminium roof rails and ‘Erinus’ alloy wheels. Inside, there were re-shaped seats and new centre console and armrest.

Released in September 2010, the Volvo Mk.3 Phase II (Mk.3-II) introduced improved occupant protection and an updated interior; the range was also revised as the LE editions were discontinued. Inside, there was a new steering wheel and gearshift knob, ‘watch dial’ instrumentation and stitching on the door and centre armrests. In November 2012, the Volvo XC70 range was updated and expanded with the introduction of the XC70 T6.

Released in September 2013, the Volvo Mk.3-III XC70 introduced a revised range which included Kinetic and Luxury editions, while the 3.2-litre petrol engine was withdrawn. The Volvo Mk.3-III XC70 could be identified by its wider front grille with a larger ‘ironmark’, daytime running lights, protective black plastic cladding (extended to surround the front fog lights) and new tail-lights. Inside, the Volvo Mk.3-III XC70 featured a new adaptive digital display which used an active TFT (Thin Film Transistor) panel to provide the driver with personalised information. The Adaptive Digital Display also had three selectable themes: Elegance, Eco and Performance.
