Recalls & faults: Suzuki LY Vitara (2015-on)

Recalls: Suzuki LY Vitara

Overview

Manufacturers, or importers, issue recalls for defects or faults which have the potential to cause injury. Generally, manufacturers will inform the original buyers if their vehicle is subject to a recall and of the steps required to remedy the defect or fault. Please note that the recalls below (if any) are for Australian-delivered vehicles only. Furthermore, the number of recalls should not be taken as an indication of a model’s reliability or its safety more generally.

Recalls: Suzuki Vitara

Suzuki Vitara: rear axle bolts could fail

In February 2016, a recall was issued for Suzuki Vitara vehicles because the rear axle bolts may loosen, come away or break – this could cause the vehicle to become ‘inoperable’ and pose an accident hazard to the occupants and other road users (PRA 2016/15216).

2015-16 Suzuki Vitara Diesel: reduction in engine power and increased emissions

In November 2016, a recall was issued for Suzuki Vitara vehicles which had diesel engines (model number APK416D) and were available for sale from 23 January 2015 to 25 September 2016. In these vehicles, the ambient temperature sensor malfunction indicator light (MIL) may not illuminate due to an incorrect software programme – this could cause a reduction in engine power and the vehicle would not comply with emissions regulations. For the VINs of the recalled Suzuki Vitara Diesel vehicles, please see PRA 2016/15723.

2015-16 Suzuki Vitara Diesel: increase in engine power and increased emissions #2

In November 2016, a recall was issued for Suzuki Vitara vehicles that had diesel engines and were available for sale from 23 January 2015 to 25 September 2016. Due to an incorrect software program, the Ambient Temperature Senor Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) may not illuminate – this could cause a reduction in engine power and the vehicle may not comply with emissions regulations. For the VINs of the recalled Suzuki Vitara vehicles, please see PRA 2016/15757.

2015-22 Suzuki Vitara: incorrect information in manual

In February 2022, recall campaign SSR27 was issued for 2015-22 Suzuki Vitara vehicles because of incorrect information in the owner’s manual regarding the installation of ISOFIX child restraints. Consumers may therefore incorrectly install the ISOFIX child restraint, posing a risk of injury to the child in the event of a collision. For this recall, Suzuki was to supply owners with the relevant information so that it could be inserted into the owner’s manual. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-005058 and REC-005061.

2016-22 Suzuki APK414 Vitara: loss of braking assistance

In September 2022, recall campaign SSR28 was issued for 2016-22 Suzuki APK414 Vitara vehicles. Due to a manufacturing defect, the valve between the engine and the vacuum assist brake booster may swell under certain conditions. As a result, power braking assistance may be lost and increased brake pedal effort may be required to reduce vehicle speed and bring the vehicle to rest. Although the brake system would remain functional, this condition increased the risk of a collision and therefore injury to vehicle occupants and other road users. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-005514 and, for Queensland vehicles, REC-005515.
