Recalls: Infiniti V37 Q50
Overview
Manufacturers, or importers, issue recalls for defects or faults which have the potential to cause injury. Recalls: Infiniti V37 Q50
Infiniti V37 Q50 Hybrid: power to motor may be cut
In September 2014, a recall was issued for Infiniti V37 Q50 Hybrid vehicles – due to a software error, the traction motor inverter may function incorrectly and the inverter system may shut down. If this occurred when driving in EV mode (i.e. petrol engine off), power to the motor may be cut, posing an accident hazard to the driver and other road users. The recalled vehicles had VINs in the range JN1BA*V37A0320003 to JN1BA*V37A0330018 (PRA 2014/14333).
Infiniti V37 Q50 Hybrid: crack in automatic transmission case
In September 2014, a recall was issued for Infiniti V37 Q50 Hybrid vehicles – due to a casting issue, there may be a crack in the automatic transmission case of some of these vehicles. If there was a crack and the vehicle was driven at high speeds (i.e. over 140 km/h), the crack could expand. At worst, the transmission mat detach from its mounting, posing an accident hazard to the driver and other road users. The recalled vehicles had VINs in the range JN1BA*V37A0320003 to JN1BA*V37A0330009 (PRA 2014/14334).
Infiniti V37 Q50 Hybrid: unintended acceleration
In September 2014, a recall as issued for Infiniti V37 Q50 Hybrid vehicles. Due to a software issue, these vehicles may gradually accelerate regardless of accelerator pedal action. The driver could, however, decelerate the vehicle as normal by applying the brakes. The recalled vehicles had VINs in the range JN1BA*V37A0320003 to JN1BA*V37A0330021 (PRA 2014/14335).
2014 Infiniti V37 Q50 Diesel: oil leak
In February 2015, a recall was issued for Infiniti V37 Q50 Diesel vehicles that were built from June 2014 to July 2014. In these vehicles, the gasket of the timing chain tensioner may not have been manufactured to specifications, resulting in an ineffective gasket seal for engine oil which may leak onto the road. If sufficient oil leaked, the engine may stop; in the presence of an ignition source, the oil could pose a fire danger; and, oil leaking onto the road may pose a hazard to occupants of the vehicle and other road users. The recalled vehicles had VINs in the range JN1BDAV37A0300157 to JN1BDAV37A0300172 (PRA 2015/14536).
2013-15 Infiniti V37 Q50: lack of steering responsiveness
In June 2016, a recall was issued for Infiniti V37 Q50 vehicles that were manufactured from November 2013 to November 2015. In these vehicles, a low battery at engine startup combined with parking while the wheels were turned could cause a miscalculation in the steering ratio – this could lead to a lack of steering responsiveness and change in turning radius, and the unexpected increase in turning radius could pose an accident hazard. The recalled Infiniti Q50 vehicles had VINs in the range JN1B**V37A0300007 to JN1B**V37A0360002 (PRA 2016/15454).
Infiniti V37 Q50: indication of automatic transmission failure not programmed in ECM
In December 2017, a recall was issued for Infiniti V37 Q50 vehicles that had 3.0-litre VR30DDTT twin-turbo petrol engines. In these vehicles, the function to indicate automatic transmission failure was not programmed in the electronic control module (ECM) due to a mismatch of on-board diagnosis communication architecture between the new ECM and the old controlled area network (CAN). As a result, the malfunction indicator light (MIL) would not illuminate and the driver would not be aware of the concern – this may be an emissions regulation non-compliance.
